![]() I rescue downed enemies whether I intend to recruit them or not. ![]() Other users will just kill their starting pet instantly and use their livestock as meat shield fodder without a second thought. By default, there is no inherent gameplay benefit for this playstyle. I don't use my livestock as meat shields. This is from the base game without Ideology expansion. I can give my own playstyle as an example. I do tend to agree with the idea of this being fundamental, and recommend it to everybody. It’s an entire expansion with lots more to it than typical DLC. Yes technically, any content you download is DLC, but this is not simple items or outfits. Just to clarify about Ideology, I don’t think the term ‘DLC’ used by the dev is accurate. So the developer ended up creating an entire expansion with all kinds of content. It really needed additional content to accommodate some of the nuances of the various parameters. However, I don’t think it could easily have been implemented as a bunch of settings. Similar to how something like the ability to customize difficulty would be considered fundamental. Just like Royalty, it’s not surprising that many view Ideology as fundamental (pretty much mandatory) to the game. As it adds a quite a hefty amount of set up to go through before starting your game. This is the reason why this expansion can be confusing/overwhelming at first glance. So when starting the game, you have the option to choose one of the existing setups, customize it, or create your own from scratch. Every faction on the planet will also have their own religious setup. There is no sort of diminishment of storytelling or progression dynamic as these parameters must be defined at the start of the game with or without the expansionĬosmetically, this is presented as setting up your society’s religion/ideology from the ground up. There are variations according to character generation, but a single overarching default at basis.Įssentially, the Ideology expansion offers customization options for general motivational parameters for your society during setup. However, there is nothing in the base game for setting any overall motivational parameters that influence how your sims behave. And there is even a section with lots of parameters to customize all kinds of options to affect the game difficulty. For example, you can set difficulty presets for the game. What it boils down to is a set of parameters that influence behavior and motivations of your sims and the sims/factions on the planet. Users should not get caught up in taking any of it too literally. ![]() The word ideology, religion, ideoligion, is cosmetic in a sense. So I considered that a bad idea before really getting a grasp on what it’s about. I noticed somebody mentioning refunding it, but really had some misconceptions about it. So rather than just shutting it off out of frustration, I was able to take the time to go through it, ask questions, gather information, and eventually get a good understanding about it. Probably the biggest thing on my mind was just trying to figure out the overall point of it. Namely for anybody who is interested in it, or just trying to figure out what it’s all about, or has some of the misconceptions about it that seem to be running around on the internet.įirst impressions was super confusing and overwhelming. As well as some of my personal experience. This is mainly to offer an explanation about the basis for Ideology. I’m not going to go into detail on all the really interesting content/quests added to the game world that reinforce the new options offered by the Ideology expansion. There is no sort of diminishment of storytelling or progression dynamic as these parameters must be defined at the start of the game with or without the expansion TLDR: Essentially, the Ideology expansion offers customization options for general motivational parameters for your society during setup.
